Open interest is the total notional value (in USD) of futures contracts that remain open and unliquidated. The distribution of OI across exchanges shows where capital is concentrated. Data refreshes roughly every minute. Beyond the 10 majors, data is Bitget-based; Binance and OKX values cover the 10 majors only.
Open interest is the total notional value, in USD, of futures contracts that are still open and have not been closed or liquidated. It counts positions that exist right now, not trades that already happened.
Rising open interest means new positions are being opened; falling open interest means positions are being closed or liquidated. It is normally read together with price: price up with open interest up is fresh positioning, while price up with open interest down is existing positions closing.

Volume counts how much traded during a period and resets each period. Open interest counts how much is still held at this moment and carries over. A day can show heavy volume with unchanged open interest if traders opened and closed within it.
